| Rabbi Dov Greenberg, executive director of Chabad at Stanford, told the crowd the question was not whether to remember, but how. “We have come here to mourn, to remember, 100%. But the deeper question is, how are we going to remember?” he said. “But the destroyers and the haters do not get to decide the next chapter of Jewish history.” Greenberg said Jews answered Oct. 7 by resolving on Oct. 8. “Because haters want me to cower in fear, I will stand with courage and dignity for my people, for Israel, for human beings, for freedom around the world,” he said. |

| A coalition of Jewish student organizations and community partners joined together to commemorate three years since the Oct. 7, 2023 attack in Israel by Hamas. Held in Old Union Hall, the event consisted of an art exhibit followed by a memorial service. Following the speeches, Rivkah Slonim, the associate director of Chabad of Binghamton, also shared closing statements.“If the last three years have taught us anything, it is this: The Jewish people don’t simply survive.” Udler said in her speech during the memorial, “We rise, we rebuild and together we move forward.” |

Chabad also drew 32% of those engaging communally this year. “Chabad in particular has been doing a really excellent job engaging people,” said Kravetz, adding that many appear to be using it “as an engagement institution rather than solely a religious institution.” JCCs, federations and foundations each drew about a quarter, consistent with earlier years. |

Rabbi Chaim Bruk of Chabad Lubavitch of Montana dedicated a candle lighting to the 1,200 civilians killed by Hamas terrorists. “May their soul be elevated to the greatest of heights and may there be guardian angels for the Jewish people and for all the people,” said Rabbi Chaim Bruk. | Over 600 people came together at the end of September for SukkahFest, the region's largest family celebration of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. Held on Sept. 30 at Congress Hill Farm in Monroe (home to Camp Gan Israel), the event was hosted by local Chabad and Jewish institutions serving Ocean and Western Monmouth Counties. During the event, a 5,000-square-foot sukkah (a temporary open-roofed structure covered in natural branches, in which Jewish families eat their meals during the weeklong holiday) rose, and attendees enjoyed carnival rides, a live concert and more. |

| Rabbi Yossi Kagan of Chabad of Clarksburg-Germantown built a sukkah on the truck bed of a pickup he rented for the seven days. A canvas banner, which doubles as one of the walls, reads “Welcome Aboard the Sukkah Mobile” and “Happy Sukkot.” “It’s a mitzvah to eat at the sukkah and shake the lulav and etrog,” the rabbi said. “So we go around with a lulav and etrog, offering the Jewish people we know, people we don’t know, [the opportunity to] shake the lulav and etrog.” |

| A new South Hills-based program is delivering kosher food as a quasi-communal hug. Kitchen of Kindness, an initiative of Chabad of the South Hills, enables volunteers to cook and deliver homemade meals to individuals experiencing hardship. The program, which started Sept. 6 at Chabad of the South Hills, is intended to provide community members with nourishment and “show them that they’re not alone and we’re here for them,” Rabbi Levi Rosenblum, a youth director at Chabad of the South Hills, told the Chronicle. |
